A COMPILATION OF SOCIAL MEDIA CASE STUDY RESOURCES

http://www.stephendebruyn.com A Compilation of Social Media Case Study Resources

As more and more organizations begin to incorporate social media strategies and tactics in their communications plans, there exists a natural interest in the efforts of companies having already taken stabs at implementing social media, and learn from their experience.

Not surprisingly, there are a considerable number of case studies and white papers available on the Web which documents these experiences.

For the benefit of all of us who are looking for good case study examples in the social media realm I have pulled together the efforts of a number of individuals who have aggregated these case studies in wikis, searchable databases or listed them in specific formats on their blogs. Here goes:

Todd Maffin has pulled together a searchable database of social media case studies, Casestudiesonline.com. He bills it as the Google for social media case studies, with reason! Search variables include industry, region and tactics. It is still in beta, so a few kinks remain to be worked out when you try to refine your selection. You can also follow Todd on Twitter @CaseStudOnline.

Peter Kim, currently Managing Director at the Dachis Group, started a wiki with case study examples a few years ago. Over time this has expanded into quite an extensive resource, with a substantial number of contributors.

Ray Schiel from the Global Social Media Network has taken Peter’s list to another level by organizing the case studies into specific categories such as blogs, social networks, online video, etc.

The Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA) has a sizable library of case study examples, provided by both members and non-members.

Chris Brogan compiled a number of social media case study bookmarks on Delicious.

Geoff Livingston, author of the book Now is Gone maintains a list of social media case studies on his blog of the same name.

Russell Pearson, author of the Parallax Blog, put together a ‘hot’ list of case study resources.

The Association Social Media Wiki features a list of associations using social media. Visit the individual association pages for insight in which social media tactics each organization is implementing.

The Collaboration Project is another set of case studies of social media in federal, state and local governments. This project is an independent forum of leaders committed to leveraging the benefits of collaborative technology to solve the complex problems faced by governments.

Jumping on Peter Kim’s bandwagon, Lisa Braziel from Ignite Social Media, a consultancy, took some of the case studies listed on his wiki, and provided more detail about them on their blog. This is more dated material, but still valuable.

Jacob Morgan, Principal at Chess Media, created a compilation of case studies from a variety of sources, with the examples specifically related to Enterprise 2.0

Scott Hepburn from Media Emerging compiled an array of social media resources which include a number of case studies.

If you know of any other wikis, blogs or databases with social media case study resources, please submit a comment to this post…

Stephen, nice roundup. At Socialmedia.biz, we've compiled a good list of social media case studies divided by category and sector:

It's mostly pulled from the Excel¬lence in New Com¬mu¬ni¬ca¬tions Awards.
